State your allegiance, to the game.
Instead of the traditional thread about teams I’m wondering how you feel about the state of the game right now.
I personally have been struggling with it. I went with the “bury your head in the sand” approach most of the off –season. I just didn’t want to hear more about HGH, steroids or Roger’s wife.
I really see no “good guys” out of all of this.
I can’t say I am excited about baseball being back.or looking forward to the season. I hope I will enjoy some games when I watch them. We’ll see. Guess I'm waiting to be won over again by baseball, MLB.
I am planning on going to NY this summer and seeing Yankee Stadium and Shea before they are gone. I’m looking forward to that.
Might even try to get out to Brooklyn and see the Cyclones. Now that I can look forward to.
Still have a prit good enjoyment of any random baseball game I attend. The atmospherics usually suit me more than any other sport other than perhaps college basketball, and the complexity of it is unique. A very subtle game IMO.
At this late date, I have almost zero allegiance to any franchise. I shed myself of a fairly hard core Orioles allegiance when Angelos ran Davey Johnson out of town. Thereafter, I've just had a generic interest in specific players and occasionally teams that I found compelling for one reason or another. I get occasionally wistful about the Nats and how it might be living in Washington these days but that wisftulness is part of a larger wistfulness about my former life in DC. I follow the Rays because I have to, but years of futility make it tough on a man to build up excitement about that franchise. This year is going to be a very interesting one, though. It now appears that the Rays are at least trying so I suspect my loyalty to the brand will be stronger than it ever has been.
The steroids thing isn't on my mind much. I used to be a very big fan of both Clemens and Bonds, in spite of their folly. I enjoy the power aspect of the game the most, and they were the best at that aspect of it. Their tarnished status hurts but I've prit much moved on at this late date. There are other things much more worthy of attention I think
It was good to wake up this morning to the Red Sox playing the A's. I love baseball.
The second game is being replayed at 2 today. Might be worth a watch to see Harden throw and listen to the ESPN guy talking about playing ball in Japan. Apparently he adopted a signature pose after a home run that the Japanese liked and expected. He came back, played for the Marlins and after he hit a home run, the Japanese press asked why he did not pose. He told them that he hoped to remain injury free that season.
MLB is basically a joke to me now with this continually unfurling fiasco with the PTB still trying to cling to some shred of *credibility*.... they were a fully-invested party to the whole of it, whether at Club level or League Level, so neh to it all. I will get used to the pinging of aluminum bats it seems.
I will continue to take great revelry, amusement and enjoyment in the tarnishing of one Fatazzed, o'erpraised hurler...every step on his way DOWN will bring satisfaction previously unknown in the observance of one's ostracization and ignominy, replete with 'roided bluster, blather and blubber.
