Interesting piece on Glavine's 300th. I did not realize that the younger pitchers were all longshots to duplicate the feat. But just the arithmetic should make it obvious 20 wins a year for 15 years or 15 a year for 20 years. Here it is.
What's up with the Yankee icon? BTW, they were discussing this on Mike and Mike in the Morning this A.M. I too, didn't realize that he may be the last, at least for a very long time.
slip of the mouse. better now?
LOL. Well I guess since he'll go into the Hall wearing a Braves cap, it's all good.
Bless his heart. How many young pitchers without dominating stuff have been given hope by Tom Glavine, I wonder?

I applaud him: I really do. I had the chance to see him pitch on a number of occasions. I can't help, though, but think of the numerous times that I have thought and I have heard from others about this mystical, hypnotic spell he was able to cast over certain umpires to gain that extra 6 inches on the outside corner to a right-handed batter.

And yeah, winning 300 seems to be getting much more difficult, with the advent of bullpen specialization and all. May be 12-15 years before we see another pitcher approaching that mark. I know Sabathia at Cleveland is still pretty young and has racked up quite a few. Barring injury and with extremely good fortune he may have a shot--as much money as Glavine has made, guys like Sabathia are gonna command a great deal more--so, more than likely a final resting spot for him would be a city like New York--and the drum beats for the "club" will be very loud.
Seen him pitch a few times here in florida against the Marlins, he is a class act, congrats to him!
Yep. The day will come when guys with 600 homers will outnumber those with 300 wins. And you never really see pitchers throw complete games anymore either.
me personally, i delight in the foreknowledge that one Adored michael mussina Adored is going to go a-wanting for a 20 win season the balance of his career
