Middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili is arrested on several charges Saturday including DWI, assault

DURHAM - Duke University junior middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili was arrested Saturday on a litany of charges, including driving while impaired, failing to stop after an accident, assault by pointing a gun, carrying a concealed weapon and simple assault.

He was indefinitely suspended from the Duke football team Sunday.

Tauiliili was arrested by a Durham police officer on Hillsborough Road in Durham around 4 a.m. He is listed on the arrest warrant by the name on his Texas driver's license, Michael Shawn Brown. Tauiliili changed his name prior to the 2006 football season to honor his Samoan heritage.

Citations say he failed to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in property damage to a vehicle owned by Jesus Alejo of Creedmoor. Tauiliili, 20, of Houston, had a .12 blood alcohol level. The legal limit in North Carolina is .08. The legal age to consume alcohol is 21.

Alejo is listed as the complainant on the simple assault charge, which alleges Tauiliili hit him in the face, resulting in an injury requiring stitches. The concealed weapon Tauiliili is accused of carrying is a knife, and the gun he is accused of pointing at Alejo is an air pistol.
