Paco Diaw to transfer from GT to U of San Diego.

That leaves another scholly open for a scholarship player or walk-on for 07/08 school year.
I'm not sure what Coach Hewitt will do. I suspect he'll probably hold it until next year.

This has nothing to do with Paco, but how do you see Maurice Miller faring in his PG role against the likes of Singletary, Lawson, Rice, Hammonds, Paulus, Hayes/Vasquez, Ish Smith, and Toney Douglas.

Or will Hewitt hand the reins to Matt Causey of Morrow/Clinch?

Seems like this is asking a lot of GA Tech without Crittenden, NC State withiut Atsur, VA Tech without Dowdell/Goirdon who were their strenghts last year,

particularly with surprising Nigel Munson transfer from VA Tech and challenge for Miami after Denis Clemente transferred to K-St or was kicked off team by Frank Haith. Canes have a guy named Rios who is supposed to be decent by 8 ACC teams with more than decent PGs make it an uphill climb.

GA Tech is so amazingly deep everywhere else even after losing Thaddeus Young if Dickey and Clinch plus Faye, Peacock and Bell may not even crack the lineup of Miller-Morrow-Jeremis Smith-Lawal-Aminu.

On the plus side, the three year rotating ACC unbalanced schedule was very kind to GA Tech with the home and home being WF, Miami, depleted VA Tech, UVA hurting after losing JR Reynold/Jason Cain and the only strong team being Clemson, with everybody but Vernon Hamilton back.

and winnable home games against FSU and MD if not UNC. Away at BC is also winnable though that has not been a strength lately, nor has winning close games.

Duke and NC State away will be tough though NC State has no proven PG either, and mirrors GA TEch with JJ Hickson and a strong returning nucleus everywhere but the PG.

I think Coach Hewitt will start practice with both getting an equal look. But Causey has an amazing shot and was the Georgia Gatorade POY when he graduated highschool. He just didn't like Georgetown. Also I really think since he's had a whole year practicing with Hewitt's system, he's going to have a significant edge on Miller. I really expect Causey to be the starter and Miller to get significant time on the court. I expect him to play the point while Causey rests or slide to the 2 position. Also I understand Causey is a very good defender and that's big with Hewitt.

I just wish CPH could get some depth at point, I'd love to have a Fr or So on the bench every year and a Jr or Sr starting. But the PGs rarely are willing to go somewhere and develop these days. The NBA has such a demand for ball handlers. You'd think the coaches would do something to continue to develop those skills in the NBA.

I hope we can take advantage of the favorable schedule this year. But Tech can't continue to relly on home ACC wins. They need to win more games away if they are ever going to move up into the top of the ACC.

Here's an update. Apparently, Paco didn't get the offer of scholarship from San Diego. His biggest desire is to move closer to his brother Boris.
Quote:Heading to Georgia Tech are Gani Lawal, a 6-8 forward from Norcross, Ga.; Maurice Miller, a 6-2 point guard from Memphis, Tenn., and Lance Storrs, a 6-5 shooting guard from Decatur, Ga. Recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons ranked the class No. 3 in the ACC.

I'm looking forward to Lawal and Miller, I expect Lawal to see significant playing time this year. Miller will split time at the point, learning and becoming the PG of the future (see above posts for more detail)

I think Storrs may not see alot of playing time unless one of the other shooters gets an injury. We have alot of depth at his position.
