it takes a box score like that to make the rhetoric of Scott Boras look mild and understated. one gun had stras hitting 103, and that gas is moving around like a slider in the strike zone. add the unhittable curve to the mix and you have cruelty. the guy is just stupid good

Why in the hell could they not make this a nationally televised game. I truly wanted to see this game.
What a great performance. Just wow.

how will the Nationals mess up this situation?
06-09-2010, 04:00 PM
Just wait until I'm in attendance (which could be his next home start, depending on whether they decide to pitch him every five days or every five games). He will suddenly become Ben McDonald, another notable Boras client.

So.... how long until he plays for the yankee$

It was televised on MLB Network. Bob Costas, Jim Kaat, and John Smoltz were on the call. Costas compared him to Walter Johnson, which appealed to the younger viewers. Kaat spent a lot of time complaining about pitch counts and at one point compared Strasburg's workload to that of Mark Fidrych during Fidrych's rookie season.
Of course, Kaat didn't mention Fidrych's career-ending shoulder injury...

I guess we should have known this was coming. Dang, need to consult my gris-gris handbook to help ward off the effects of this:

On the positive side, at least he doesn't have a baseball in his mouth.

any chance he'll get voted to the All Star team?

who knows? I heard someone suggest today that the players on the contending teams in the NL would likely vote for him, as he may well help the team have a chance to win and get home field for the WS.
Personally, I'd prefer that he not. But the economics and media interest suggests the powers that be will find a way to get him there.

what are your reservations about voting him as an All Star?
06-25-2010, 09:25 AM
It's an interesting debate, but I've always thought that the best players should be in the all-star game, especially now that it actually counts for something. Granted, he would probably only pitch a couple of innings.
I know many fans and players feel differently, but the all-star game shouldn't be a lifetime achievement award. If it's about the best pitchers in the NL being on the team, I'm not sure how you leave Strasburg out.

Mainly just concern that it will disrupt his schedule and burn on of the limited appearances he will get. He's probably going to be shut down in early Sept in any event and the Nats need as much Strasburg as they can get.
If I were picking an all-star team to win one game with the current rules and usage limits, he would likely be on my list.

showed signs of humanity vs the braves, although an outing wherein he does not pitch at his best and still fans 7 is saying something in itself.
under the circumstances i'm very much ok with Baseball Emmanuel being an all star. i think we have established that that all star game is not about baseball anyhow and it would jump interest in it significantly

Besides, the Nats need a representative...

Strasburg has lost his last 2 starts.

That'll happen with zero run support. And Ian Desmond botching an easy double play certainly doesn't help. I'm looking forward to Saturday...my first "live" Strasburg game against a suddenly decent Mets lineup.

here's the WaPost beat reporters analysis of the Nats representative:
Rammer Jammer
I'm a fan, but can barely bring myself to punch the chad on the all star ballots for Josh, so this surprised me.
Still think it will be Zimm.

Wright really turned in on in June. I agree with Kilgore. If not Stras it probably should be Willingham.

Strasburg won't be pitching again anytime soon.... With luck, he will someday.
