To be able to say 'fair or not fair', one would need to know more about what happened.
I tell ya though, his track record the last couple of years hasn't been great with the ladies.
I suppose Goodell sends quite a message with this suspension. It is certainly pretty tough.
How do you get accused of sexual battery/misconduct/rape TWICE in your life? Let alone within a year and a half?

who was the player that killed someone in Atlanta? or was accused of it anyway? did the NFL give him a punishment?

You mean Stallworth?

He was given a year long suspension.

I believe Roethlisberger's punishment was absolutely fair.
I am amazed, though, that his actions don't seem to incite the same degree of indignation and reproach from women as Tiger's misdeeds. At least what Tiger did was consensual; Ben appears to be a bit of a sexual predator.

Since I don't know all the facts I can only generalize. I draw these generalizations from the college and pro football players I know/have known.
Many many many male professional athletes have women throwing themselves in their paths. (What was a 20 year old doing in that bar in the first place?! We can assume fake ID was involved.) Many of these gals think they can "land a big one." Many of these women are clueless to the "ship in every port" concept of traveling hordes of testosterone.
Many of these fellers have had a fairly easy time getting what they want in life because of their athletic skills. Many do not have good social skills. Many are just about as dumb as a sack of rocks. They think they can get away with bad behavior.
Now if we combine a member of each of these groups we can have a situation where signals get crossed or someone doesn't get what they want so they make a false claim or they get what they THINK they want and realize it wasn't such a good idea after all.
Ol Ben appears to be a really dumb kid who thinks perhaps he can get away with bad behavior. But we weren't there and can't say for sure.
That said, how can the NFL suspend him when all charges were dropped?

mom, agree with your entire post. I believe the NFL has some leeway because its conduct related.

Not me. Tiger's actions were confirmed (not a he said/she said type thing) and you're talking ten or so women, and he's married with two kids.
Not saying Ben doesn't clearly appear shady here, or that the suspension isn't warranted. Just don't see his and Tiger's actions as comparable, at least from what's known.

That was Ray Lewis...and it was one of his buddies in his posse who stabbed someone - Ray just, allegedly, helped cover it up and didn't cooperate.
Now, Devnote Stallworth killed someone walking across the street while he was driving in his SUV early in the morning. He was drunk.
He was suspended for a year.
As for his suspension - absolutely fair. Goodell has a great comment on his behavior and why he's getting suspended. Funny, he expects more from his employees than voters do from their politicians.

Quote:My decision today is not based on a finding that you violated Georgia law, or on a conclusion that differs from that of the local prosecutor. That said, you are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans

Tiger had consensual sex with several women. That's no one's business but his and his wife's, IMO.
There's evidence that Roethlisberger is groping women against their will, and posting his minions nearby to keep them from getting away. That's everybody's business.

I'm not sure there's any hard "evidence" at this point. I agree there's plenty of smoke. I just tend to give the accused the benefit of doubt in "he said, she said" situations, or at least situations like that where the accused happens to have a crapload of money and fame.

Fair enough. My point is that from a societal standpoint, Roethlisberger's (alleged) actions concern me much more than anything Tiger did. Tiger basically hurt no one but himself and his family; on the other hand, if I had a daughter, I would be very worried about her if she happened to be located in the same zip code as Big Ben.
ETA: Goodell was absolutely right to try and nip this in the bud, before something really serious happens. One time is an accident; two times is a trend...

Because Tiger Woods is a lot more famous, and somewhat of a Golf Golden Child. He gets more attention than BR does.
