Bolded is mine.

In order:

1. Good signing by NE. Consumate team player that will pay big dividends. NE still knows what they're doing.

2. Houston continues it's quest for a RB. Think they regret passing on Bush right about now? Green may give them one good year. May.

3. Classic underachiever. Good luck SF.

4. Buffalo overpaid for him, but he's not bad.

5. Underrated CB, even if he's from Carolina. Good signing for Den ver.

6. Basically Curtis as a slight upgrade.

7. Smoot returns to DC. He's better than any CB they have besides Shawn Springs, so it's not a bad move.

8. I like Lewis, but he's a rich man's Ahman Green. He'll give Cleveland a couple of decent years, but he's not the long term answer.

9. So much for Garcia saying it's not all about he money and he'd like to stay in Philly. What must Chris Simms be thinking right now?

10. Good signing by Miami. Filled a need with a great LB that will probably do well in their system.

11. Perhaps the most ridiculous FA signing so far. Davis is a classic underachiever coming off the worst OL in pro football.

12. Did DC actually sign a good player to a decent FA contract? Yes. They're learning.

13. They paid too much, but he was the best FA CB available. It's the way of the NFL world these days.

14. Jets got a steal.

15. If Shannahan thinks he still has something left, he probably does. You know how Denver does RB's. Look for 1500 yards this year.

16. LOL

17. They probably gave up too much, but I still like it. Baltimore has proven to be a savvy Front Office over the years. This will probably work out for them in the long term.

Thoughts?

Oh, and with all respect to Fooey, if you guys need a true NFL nut to moderate this board, I'd love the chance. Unless Fooey really wants it...in that case no problem.
As a Bills fan, I can speak for those players involved:

Dockery - he's a good pickup, considering how putrid Buffalo's o-line was this past year. They needed a serious long-term upgrade at guard and he was it. Price was a little steep but it shows the committement the team was willing to make to be a player in Free Agency.

Fletcher-Baker - solid player who has overcome a smaller size (5'10/11, 235-240) to put up solid numbers year after year in the NFL. Character guy who'll do well in the locker room. Problem?? He's 32 and isn't going to continue at the pace he's been at for the last few years. Smart move, but not a long term solution for Washington (I think he signed for 4 years?). Buffalo could easily get similiar production in a faster, cheaper body, particularly in the draft.

Clements - Buffalo wasn't going to pay 10 million a year for a CB and frankly, he better pick off 10 passes a year to warrant that kinda money. Buffalo made a smart move - free up some cash to find a free agent, or better yet improve their pass rush so that a shut down corner isn't needed quite as much. There's also young depth with potential behind him (Youbouty, Thomas, McGee).

McGahee - frankly, this was a move that benefitted both teams AND after looking at what the Bears got in return for Thomas Jones, the Bills got a great deal out of this trade. A 3rd and a 7th this year is decent PLUs a 3rd (first day pick) in 2008. McGahee is a tough kid and can run well, both to the outside and b/t the tackles, BUT was a locker room nuisance (constantly complained about lack of respect when he put up crappy numbers, fathered 3 kids outta wedlock, said the team should be moved from Buffalo, how it was horrible to live there, it was the O-line's fault all the time, etc.) - frankly, he should play for a team full of thugs like the Ravens. He'll fit in well there with the "U" mentality. Buffalo again could get Marshawn Lynch or Michael Bush and do what teams like the Bears, Colts, Patriots, and other great teams do - run the backfield by committee.

Frankly, for as much as they are getting roasted in the media for some of these moves, the Bills I think will be on a more solid foundation, with an up and coming QB, some young talent on defense, and a GM who is building a team, and not just acquiring a bunch of free agents or picking talent that doesn't mesh well.
By the way Hess, that's a great job you did with the FA tracker ... Eusa_clap
I also think the Pats made some serious upgrades on both offense and defense. They're going to be very, very good next season (again).
Thanks, Karthi. Pretty much agree with your elaboration on the Bills' moves. As for the Patriots, it would seem that the Colts' success has really pissed them off, for lack of a better term

Of course, my Giants made the ultimate FA move a couple of weeks ago that will dominate the NFL for years to come...

I wish they'd do something to replace Gumbel. Talk about awful.
